Almost a Peek - The Jackson's Place Series

What is more synonymous than New Orleans and its specatacular Mardi Gras Festival?  It wasn't until 1875 that Mardi Gras became a legal holiday in Louisiana and the tradition of bead throwing actually started with thie original colors.  The color of the beads was determined by the king of the first daytime Carnival in 1872. He wanted the colors to be royal colors – purple for justice, gold for power and green for faith. The idea was to toss the color to the person who exhibited the color’s meaning.  Bead throwing has evolved since then from tradition to a naughty "peek" and not throwing strands at all.   This playful mosaic visits the long time tradition of beads within the spirit of Mardi Gras.

At 18 1/4" x 18 1/4" this playful piece is full of fine detail, from its imprinted clay piece mosaic background to the whimsical and alluring hand-painted glazed hair.
